One of the leaders of the European Union, Vatroslav Belan, announced today that the President of the Parliament of Montenegro and leader of the New Serbian Democracy (NSD), Andrija Mandić, is a burden on Montenegro’s further progress towards membership in the European Union (EU).
“Yesterday, the members of the European Parliament presented a true ‘Euro model’ for Montenegro. Of course, for those who know how and want to read clear messages, in contrast to our domestic Balkan muddleheads. The ‘model’ is very simple – there is no place in the European Union for those who glorify war criminals. Andrija Mandić is a burden on Montenegro’s further progress towards EU membership,” Belan stressed in a statement.
He added that “it is not a question of some independent flight of five MEPs, but a careful and logical selection of representatives who sent a message on behalf of the four largest groups in the European Parliament – the conservatives, socialists, liberals and greens.”
“The message could not have been clearer, with a diplomatic formulation about the right of members of the Parliament of Montenegro to vote, of course, according to their conscience, which for those who may still be pretending to be unskilled or who have not understood how to vote in favor of Montenegro’s European perspective should be translated as – ‘we told you, and you do as you please’,” said Belan.
A joint statement by MEPs Marjan Šarec, Thomas Wejc, Reinhold Lopatka, Vladimir Prebilič and Kostas Mavrides, published yesterday by Vijesti, states that convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić does not deserve to be honored, especially considering the genocide in Srebrenica, which was not an isolated case.
“We are convinced that Andrija Mandić knew exactly what reaction he would provoke by officially expressing condolences,” the statement said.
