Two and a half years ago, Bulgaria’s battery energy storage sector barely existed. At the start of 2024 the country had around 200MWh installed; by May 2026, ENTSO-E’s own transmission-operator data had already put Bulgaria’s fleet at roughly 3.3GW and 8.6GWh, surpassing Germany, whose utility-scale battery capacity stood at under 3GW at the same point.
