The Ministry of Environment has submitted a draft proposal for public discussion to impose a temporary ban on the export of whitefish roe from the territory of Armenia.
According to Aysor.am, specialists from the Ministry of Environment, the “Sevan National Park” SNCO, and the “Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology” SNCO of the National Academy of Sciences conducted a scientific fishing operation from December 2025 to February 6, 2026. The aim was to assess the natural reproduction of whitefish in Lake Sevan and determine the timing of its spawning stages.
To ensure the natural reproduction of whitefish, a program of comprehensive and intensified measures is implemented annually from late November through February, when whitefish fishing is prohibited, to prevent illegal fishing.
The draft proposes imposing a six-month ban on the export from the territory of the Republic of Armenia of whitefish (Coregonus) roe, which belongs to the salmonid family and originates in the Republic of Armenia, falling under EAEU CN codes 0302 91 000 0, 0303 91, 1604 32 001 0, and 0511 91 901 9.
