The Portugal Film Commission returned to Toronto, Canada, to participate in TIFF: The Market during the Toronto International Film Festival, held from September 10 to 16, 2026. The market presence focused on promoting Portugal as a destination for international film and television productions.
Operating within the AFCI Destination Lounge—an initiative organized by the Association of Film Commissioners International—Executive Director Ana Marques held meetings with international industry professionals to discuss filming opportunities, locations, and infrastructure across the country.
On September 11, the AFCI Destination Lounge hosted a dedicated presentation showcasing Portugal’s production environment, with particular emphasis on SCRI.PT, the country’s Audiovisual and Film Industry Funding Programme, detailing its updated financial incentives and opportunities for foreign projects.
On the same day, Marques participated in the panel “Filming History: Production Opportunities in Austria & Portugal” alongside Juliane Buchroithner, Film Commissioner at Film in Austria, and Marijana Stoisits, Managing Director of the Vienna Film Commission. Moderated by AFCI Executive Director Claire Brooks, the session focused on the advantages of filming historical projects in both territories.
Portugal’s presence at the festival also included three titles with Portuguese involvement: “Love of Your Life”, directed by Rachel Morrison (Special Presentations); “The Difficult Bride”, by Rubaiyat Hossain (Centrepiece); and “Terminal”, an animated short by Alexandre Siqueira (Short Cuts), which received an Honorable Mention from the jury for Best Animated Short Film.
