Search for missing Maine teen Stefanie Damron continues two years after she disappeared
NEW SWEDEN, Maine —
Wednesday marks two years since Stefanie Damron, a teenage girl from northern Maine, went missing in her hometown of New Sweden.
Authorities have said Stefanie was last seen on Sept. 23, 2024, as she walked away from her home and into the woods along West Road. She was reported missing by her family the following day.
Stefanie was 13 years old when she disappeared, which happened less than two weeks before her 14th birthday.
Last week, Maine State Police officials advised the public that there would be an increased law enforcement presence in New Sweden on Friday, Sept. 18, as part of the ongoing investigation into Stefanie’s disappearance. Officials did not disclose whether the activity involved a new lead, a specific search location or a new development. Police said they could not provide specific details because the case remains active.
State police and the FBI have previously conducted extensive searches in the New Sweden area, including searches with the Maine Warden Service and K-9 teams. Investigators have also followed leads in Maine, other parts of the country and Canada, according to Maine State Police.
A public search organized by Damron’s family was also held this past July. Earlier searches have covered thousands of acres of northern Maine wilderness.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $15,000 for information leading to Damron’s safe return or to the arrest and prosecution of anyone involved in her disappearance.
The missing person poster on the FBI website states that Stefanie was 5 feet tall and weighed approximately 130 pounds when she was last seen. Stefanie has green eyes and had shoulder-length brown hair when she went missing. According to authorities, Stefanie was wearing blue jeans, a long-sleeved blue shirt and black Harley-Davidson hiking boots when she disappeared.
