The nation’s highways have already begun witnessing traffic to and from the Seoul metro area as South Koreans head to their hometowns for the Chuseok holiday, which begins Thursday for a four-day run.
According to the Korea Expressway Corporation, some 510-thousand vehicles are set to hit major highways on Wednesday and depart from the capital region, while around 450-thousand cars are set to head toward the Seoul metro area.
On Thursday, approximately 510-thousand vehicles are expected to exit Seoul, while about 380-thousand are forecast inbound.
The corporation predicted that congestion would peak around noon Thursday, with outbound traffic easing after 8 p.m. Thursday.
As for inbound traffic on Thursday, congestion is set to begin around 8 a.m. before peaking around noon and easing around 6 p.m.
The nation’s expressways will be toll-free during the four-day holiday.
