Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, with whom he discussed continued support for that country, bilateral relations and President Zelensky’s upcoming visit to Montenegro, Milatović’s office announced.

The President of the state, as announced, confirmed during the conversation that Montenegro remains consistent in supporting Ukraine and its efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace.

Milatović also addressed the Sixth Summit of the International Crimean Platform, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. The summit brings together Ukraine’s international partners.

“The Ukrainian people are bravely defending their homeland, freedom and right to decide their own future. Their struggle has significance far beyond Ukraine itself, but also beyond Europe, and represents a strong defense of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter,” said Milatović.

He emphasized that Montenegro, as a member of NATO and a country fully aligned with the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union, provides full support to Ukraine.

“Montenegro continues to support Ukraine through the United Nations, the OSCE and the Council of Europe, as well as through other international mechanisms. The meeting between Presidents Milatović and Zelensky and their participation in the International Crimean Platform Summit confirm the continuity of political dialogue at the highest level between the two countries, which will continue during President Zelensky’s upcoming visit to Montenegro,” the statement reads.
