BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – Bismarck State Volleyball has already matched its win total from last year. After a rocky start in the Frontier Conference, the Mystics are showing they’re no longer the new kids on the block. Setting the Standard for the program is outside hitter Reese Duchsherer.
” I mean, I know one thing for sure: she’ll be leading us for at least the first couple of years in the Frontier record books,” said BSC Volleyball Head Coach Kyle Kuether.
Duchsherer leads the Mystics in nearly every major statistical category and ranks second in the Frontier Conference in kills, but her path to becoming one of the Mystics’ top attackers wasn’t exactly straight.
“I feel like my whole volleyball career has been kind of switching around, and usually that’s really uncomfortable for people,” said BSC Volleyball Junior Outside Hitter Reese Duchsherer.
Duchsherer has embraced those changes. The former Legacy Sabers all-stater was originally recruited as a setter and now, as an outside hitter, is on pace to break Bismarck state’s all-time kills record.
She credits the people around her for helping her find success.
“The coaching staff is really awesome here, and they made it an easy choice to come here,” said Duchsherer. “Also, just staying close to home was something I really wanted.
As one of the many homegrown members on the team, Duchsherer has shown she can do a little bit of everything. Head Coach Kyle Kuether says that versatility is what makes her such a valuable player.
“She’s kind of a beach player, you know, in the sense of like she can do everything. She can pass. She can set. She can receive. Serve. She can serve. Hit,” Kuether Said. “I mean, we kind of knew that whatever she really put her mind to, she was going to excel at.”
Now, that versatility has turned into leadership. As Bismarck State continues to climb in the Frontier Conference, Duchsherer is helping lead the way, both with her play and her voice.
“Being a voice on the team and encouraging people, and obviously just trying to lead by example and just being there for everybody,” Duchsherer said.
This season, Duchsherer isn’t just taking on a bigger role but a new number. She now wears number eight on the court, just like her mom and aunt did in their playing days, adding to a legacy that could soon put her name at the top of the Bismarck state record books.
