Softwood sawlog harvest will decrease 4%, while pulpwood harvest will fall 2%.

Sweden’s forest sector is expected to record gross felling of about 84.6 million m3 standing volume in 2026, down 2.4 million m3 from 87.0 million m3 in 2025. The 3% decrease reflects changes in roundwood supply and demand in the Swedish wood-processing industry, according to the Swedish Forest Agency.

Softwood sawlog harvest is expected to decrease by 1.3 million m3, or 4%, compared with 2025. Swedish production of sawn wood products is expected to fall 4.5% this year, while higher sawlog exports are expected to limit the decline in domestic harvesting.

Pulpwood harvest is expected to decrease by 0.8 million m3, or 2%, from 2025. Pulp production is expected to remain largely unchanged from last year, with pulpwood demand met through lower inventories and increased imports.

Firewood harvest is expected to remain unchanged in 2026.

The forecast takes into account expected production in Sweden’s sawmill, pulp and paper industries. Uncertainty is higher this year because of market conditions and external factors, while changes in roundwood flows following windthrow from storms Johannes and Dave have added uncertainty to the forecast.
