Leander City Council approved last week a letter of intent with CenTex Sports to establish an approximately 40-acre site at 204 Heritage Grove Road, Leander, TX 78641. According to Zillow, the listing was removed on September 4 and sold for an estimated $12.8 million.
CentTex Sports is a youth sports entity focuses on recreational and competitive leagues, camps, clinics and year-round athletic programs. CenTex Sports is cashing in on a roughly 150,000-square-foot indoor sports complex that will also feature a covered track, four beach volleyball courts along with two soccer fields, according to a city release published on Monday, September 21.
Under current project timelines, construction on the facility will begin on or before December 31, 2027, with an estimated completion date on or before December 31, 2028. Per the agreement, CenTex Sports is pouring in approximately $55 million into that Phase 1 investment. A second phase of work will include a minimum of four baseball or softball fields alongside one more soccer field, with that project required to kickstart by December 31, 2029 and wrap by December 31, 2030.
In an interview with MySA on Thursday, September 24, Leander City Manager Todd Parton said the company has been eyeing a project of this scope for several years now. For Leander, both youth and adult entertainment options have been a high priority for new development initiatives as the city’s population has skyrocketed and more families call the community home.
“It really is an exciting thing that brings economic development, it brings the sports entertainment and leisure, but it also supports the community as a whole,” Parton said. “And so that’s what was kind of exciting about this whole package that CenTex Sports is proposing to bring forward.”
The project also comes at a time of a new phase of development within the city of Leander. Parton said the community has been in its initial growth phase, which has centered around bringing online ample homes and residences to support its growing population. Now, he said, is the “next step for the community.”
“When you talk to a lot of our citizens, they’ll say, ‘hey, we really now need to see family-oriented things for our community, for quality of life,'” Parton added. “So this is beginning to bring those resources here, bring them home, but they’re also sized in a way that is also serving those other populations that are around the area.”
Since the 2020 Census, Leander has seen an explosive population growth of 53.8% as of 2025 estimates.
Being nestled near the Interstate 35 corridor and in a large growth area courtesy neighboring communities like Liberty Hill and Georgetown, Leander’s own retail and commercial growth extends beyond its own residents. It’s something Parton said he takes seriously, and has particularly stressed a need for smart, intentional and sustainable growth to ensure there aren’t any unexpected consequences down the road from mismanagement.
“Are we going to be sustainable financially? Are we growing the sources and are we providing the things that our communities are going to need?” he said. “We want to make sure that we are building those and providing those services and those facilities, and that we’re doing it at a very high quality and that we’re doing it in a way that’s going to be sustainable so that many generations, the future generations of this community are going to have a community that they love and will embrace and will withstand the test of time.”
