From migration waves to wartime advocacy, the presentation traced how Ukrainians in Belgium preserve their identity while building ties with Belgian society.
The Belgian Embassy in Luxembourg hosted a presentation on Belgium’s Ukrainian community and its support for Ukraine. It was delivered by Zenon Koval, a member of the executive committee of the Ukrainian World Congress and political adviser to the European Congress of Ukrainians. Koval spoke about the history of the Ukrainian community, waves of migration to Belgium, and the preservation of language, culture, and identity while integrating into Belgian society.
Support for Ukraine after the full-scale invasion began
The speaker also focused on the changes that followed Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. He said that Ukrainian organizations in Belgium contribute to humanitarian aid, advocacy, cultural initiatives, and support for Ukraine.
The event was held at the invitation of Belgium’s ambassador to Luxembourg, Thomas Lambert. Those in attendance included diplomats, representatives of Luxembourg’s public institutions, the media, the business community, and the Ukrainian community. The lecture was organized by the Advocacy Coalition for 2026–2027 with the support of the Belgian Embassy in Luxembourg.
