President Lee Jae Myung is heading home after wrapping up his trip to the United States for the United Nations General Assembly and a state visit to Mexico.
Lee departed Felipe Angeles International Airport in Mexico City on Saturday morning local time.
He became the first South Korean president in 16 years to make a state visit to Mexico, where he held a summit with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
The two countries concluded seven years of negotiations to revise their investment protection agreement and signed 17 memorandums of understanding and other cooperation documents covering the economy, industry, resources, artificial intelligence, defense and space, culture and tourism.
They also agreed to continue cooperating to ensure a stable supply of and access to crude oil.
Earlier, Lee visited New York to attend the 81st UN General Assembly, where he delivered a keynote speech recalling that the simultaneous admission of the two Koreas to the United Nations 35 years ago laid the groundwork for peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula. He also outlined a three-point blueprint for peaceful coexistence.
Lee also held a roughly 30-minute summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, reaffirming their shared commitment to deepen cooperation on nuclear-powered submarines, the enrichment and reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel, shipbuilding, and the transfer of wartime operational control from the United States to South Korea.
