President Masoud Barzani and Austria’s new ambassador to Iraq Axel Weich discussed regional developments and ways to expand historical, economic, and tourism ties.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – President Masoud Barzani received Austria’s newly appointed ambassador to Iraq, Axel Weich, in Pirmam on Sunday, with the meeting focusing on political and security developments in Iraq, regional developments, and strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Region and Austria.
According to the Barzani Headquarters, the meeting addressed the political situation and the latest developments in the region, as well as the conclusion of the coalition forces’ mission in Iraq and the challenges facing the country’s stability.
During the meeting, President Barzani emphasized his support for the efforts of the Iraqi prime minister to overcome and resolve challenges and ensure stability in Iraq.
The discussions also covered the development of the historical relations between the Kurdistan Region and Austria, with both sides stressing the importance of expanding cooperation.
President Barzani also referred to the longstanding relations between the two sides and thanked the Austrian people and government for their solidarity with and assistance to the Kurdish people during difficult days of the Kurdish revolution.
The meeting further emphasized expanding relations between Austria and the Kurdistan Region, particularly in the fields of economic cooperation and tourism.
