Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is expected to visit Montenegro by mid-October, local media reported, citing unnamed diplomatic sources. Meetings are reportedly planned with President Jakov Milatović, Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović.

As of September 28, neither Beijing nor Podgorica had officially confirmed the visit or announced a date, programme or possible agreements.

The potential trip comes as China and Montenegro mark 20 years of diplomatic relations. Economic cooperation, investment, infrastructure and tourism are expected to dominate any talks. China is a major source of Montenegrin imports, while Chinese companies have played a leading role in building the Bar–Boljare motorway.

The visit would also carry political significance, as NATO member Montenegro seeks EU membership while maintaining close economic ties with China. | BGNES
