Law enforcement officers in the Chernivtsi region uncovered two schemes involving the illegal smuggling of men of draft age into Romania and served notices of suspicion to three residents of the region. In one case, a man subject to military conscription was hidden in a plastic barrel in the cargo compartment of a car, while in another, the plan was to lead him on foot through the mountains to bypass border patrols.
The cost of the service to smuggle someone in a plastic barrel was 10,000 euros. The man was picked up in a Renault Master in Zalishchyky, hidden in the barrel to pass through a checkpoint, and after the money was handed over in Storozhynets, two suspects were detained. In the second scheme, a 23-year-old man from Bukovina was supposed to establish a walking route through the mountains in the Vyzhnytsia district for 12,000 dollars; however, law enforcement officers detained him in the village of Serhii immediately after he received the initial payment of 10,000 dollars.
Currently, all three suspects have been subject to preventive measures for organizing and facilitating the illegal smuggling of persons across the state border.
