Spain defeated Croatia 4-1 in a UEFA Nations League Group A3 match on September 29 in Seville, Spain. Lamine Yamal scored twice, while Marc Pubill and Nico Williams added one goal each. Asharq Al-Awsat reports that Spain secured their second victory in their first two matches of the tournament and lead the group with six points.
Yamal scores twice in Seville
The match at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium was Spain’s first home fixture after winning the World Cup in New York in July. Before the game, team captain Rodri received the trophy from Jesus Navas, a 2010 World Cup winner and Sevilla legend, and later presented it to the fans.
Yamal opened the scoring in the 75th second. Shortly before the half-hour mark, Dion Beljo equalized with a header following a cross from Ivan Perisic. However, three minutes later, Atletico defender Marc Pubill put the hosts back in front after a delivery from Yamal.
In the 63rd minute, Yamal fired accurately into the near corner of Dominik Livakovic’s goal, scoring his third goal in the current Nations League campaign. Late in the match, Nico Williams made the final score after a feint. Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente noted that the 19-year-old footballer is eager to develop and show the world his level.

England’s first victory
In another group match, England beat the Czech Republic 2-0 in Prague to claim their first victory in the tournament. The Czechs played with one man fewer from the 23rd minute, when Pavel Sulc was sent off for a dangerous foul on Elliot Anderson.
After the break, Anthony Gordon opened the scoring with a header from a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross, marking Alexander-Arnold’s first start for England in almost two years. In the 69th minute, Harry Kane doubled the visitors’ advantage. England are second in the group with three points, ahead of Croatia on goal difference.
In the next round on Saturday, England will play Croatia in Rijeka, while Spain will host the Czech Republic in Oviedo.
