BELLOWS FALLS — Invasive Weed Gallery will present a special exhibition of Tom Swetland’s Sorcerers of the Imperium – from Himmler to Hegseth, from Oct. 3 to Nov. 7. There will be an opening reception this Saturday, Oct. 3, at 4 p.m.
Every once in a great while the tectonic plates shift more violently than usual; that’s when demons and sorcerers slither up from hell and commence to make themselves at home amongst us. The language of cruelty becomes the new normal… on the shoreline the waters recede, leaving a muddy sea floor filled with flopping and stranded fish. All of the animals of air and land head for the hills, but curious people wander down to take a look at the fantastical landscape. In the distance they notice the bluish form of a mountain they’d never seen before. Is it a magic mountain?
Only in the last fleeting seconds do the throngs gathered on the mudflats realize that the mountain is a huge wave, the unrelenting force of which will crush them to smithereens. This show by artist Tom Swetland depicts some of the slithery sorcerers on the shoreline, just before the apocalypse, singing their siren songs, keeping people ignorant of their fate.
The gallery is located at 97a Rockingham St. The exhibit will be open Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. or by appointment.
