The press service of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced this afternoon that he has not received medical clearance to travel by plane to Serbia.

“Due to the consequences of the assassination attempt, his health condition still does not allow him to travel by plane, although his great desire was to come to Belgrade in person and attend the large national rally of the Aleksandar Vučić – United Serbia list,” the Slovak Prime Minister’s office said in a statement.

“To our great regret, the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic will not be able to attend the large public gathering at the Belgrade Arena,” the statement added, reported B92.

Fico said earlier today that he has been “fighting the virus” all week and that he will try to attend the rally organized by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) in Belgrade.

He wrote on social media that he did not go to a rally in Dukla, on the Slovakian-Polish border, due to the virus, and that he would “try to pull himself together” to travel to Belgrade.

The leader of the ruling coalition in Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, announced on Friday that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico will be a guest at the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) rally in the Belgrade Arena.

Fico, who spent 13 of the last 20 years as Prime Minister of Slovakia, was described by Vučić as a man who consistently supports Serbia on the international stage.

“He is always with us, he always respects Kosovo and Metohija as part of Serbia and the territorial integrity of our country,” said Vučić, who resigned as President of Serbia a few days ago.
