China has suspended container shipping to Europe via the Northern Sea Route until summer 2027.
“The route is seasonal and will resume operations next summer,” the customs authorities said, China Central Television (CCTV) reported, citing the customs authorities in the city of Ningbo.
CCTV reported that eight voyages have been completed since the route was launched. During that period, vessels transported 7,760 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers carrying cargo valued at 5.33 billion yuan ($748 million).
