Vilnius Airport in Lithuania has been forced to close due to a suspected drone, reportedly flying into the country from Belarus.
Nato Baltic Air Policing jets are at the site in the country’s capital city.
Officials are encouraging residents there to be prepared to seek shelter if necessary.
The head of the centre, Vilmantas Vitkauskas, said the scrambled jets were carrying out the necessary procedures.
In recent months, Lithuania has already issued warnings about possible air threats amid the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
In September, a drone that violated the country’s airspace was shot down over Lithuanian territory for the first time. Similar incidents had previously occurred in Latvia and Estonia.
