Miura & Partners has opened an office in Plano, Texas, and confirmed plans to establish a Hong Kong presence soon.
The Plano location is the Japanese firm’s third US office, following the launch of branches in San Francisco and Seattle in April 2023 and February 2025, respectively.
Partners Junko Shiokawa, Norika Yuasa, Masayuki Atsumi and Taro Tanaka will initially supervise the new office, while the firm develops its longer-term management and operational arrangements. The team currently consists of three local lawyers and one or two lawyers who will relocate from Tokyo.
The Plano launch follows Miura & Partners’ announcement that it will open an Okinawa office in January 2027.
The firm also intends to add further locations in the US and Asia-Pacific, including a Hong Kong office.
“We plan to expand and open additional offices globally including the US and the Asia-Pacific region. As part of this expansion, we will soon open our Hong Kong office to enhance our capability in advising on China-related legal matters and dispute resolutions and cross-border transactions in the region,” Shiokawa told Asia Business Law Journal.
Shiokawa said rapid growth in particular sectors during the past few years, along with companies relocating to Texas, proved to be pivotal factors behind Miura & Partners’ decision to establish a presence in Plano.
“Texas has experienced rapid growth in recent years, becoming one of the nation’s leading economic powerhouses not only in the energy sector but also in fields such as technology, healthcare, aerospace and finance. As numerous global companies relocate their headquarters to the state, Texas has grown increasingly vital as a manufacturing, sales, and R&D hub [so demand for services] has never been greater for Japanese companies,” she said.
“In response to this growing demand from Japanese clients for US markets, M&P has decided to establish a new office in Plano, Texas. Located near Dallas, a primary hub airport with seamless nationwide connectivity, our new base offers exceptional accessibility for clients across the United States. Furthermore, Texas is also widely recognised as a premier venue for intellectual property and patent litigation, which will form one of [the] core pillars of our practice.”
The Plano office opened on 1 October 2026, offering services across numerous practice areas.
“We provide a broad range of legal services, with a particular focus on disputes, litigation and ADR (alternative dispute resolution), as well as M&A, intellectual property, technology and commercial transactions, real estate, employment and immigration, international tax, and privacy and data protection,” she said.
