Crazy this isn’t bigger news vs. Reform tbh. I wonder if they’ll form an Islamic party with seats?

Thank fuck I don’t associate current UK related problems with a highly volatile historical conflict between two religions and ideologies in the Middle East.
Not enough nuance by people on the left about dodgy misinformation about it on TikTok, obviously the majority of Islam ideology hate Israel by default so of course they would vote people in that care about Palestine/Israel more than the UK.
Thank fuck I am not involved in religious bias in regards to war and conflict and actively look for places that have blatant misinformation about current world events on purpose.

So many of the independant candidates have had aggresive campaigns focused on gather up the pro gaza/muslim vote. I hope this kind of treatment of the democratic process does not continue and we don’t start to see voting purely on religious/cultural lines

Honestly the most pointless thing imaginable. Regardless of your opinion on the conflict, what exactly have these constituencies achieved? They’ve elected single-issue, woefully unqualified MPs who are going to represent them for the next 5 years, on the basis of an issue that they *can literally do nothing about*.
I’m also just counting down the days until it turns out some of them are Hamas sympathisers.

Absolutely disgusting that people would vote for a candidate who has no interest in UK issues but rather a territory thousands of miles away!

Which is *utterly insane*. It’s quite literally nothing to do with us. What are we going to do about it? Absolutely cock all because there’s cock all we can do about it.

So we have ‘Muslim Areas’ now? I thought that was right wing demagoguery
OwlsParliament on
As much as they’re “pro-Gaza” I do think it’s also a swing in support on left-wing ideas in those areas too. Candidates like Shockat Adam clearly made an effort to be more appealling on the NHS, climate change and benefits.

It is so stupid to vote on the single issue of a foreign conflict. There are so many things that need sorted here. The party’s approach to Gaza didn’t even cross my mind when considering who to vote for.

Some (more since one was already caught out – wonder how he did) scrutiny of those independent candidates stance on equality for homosexuals and women – might be illuminating.

Pro-Gaza is window dressing to cover up what’s really happening, the emergence of candidates running (and winning) on an Islamic platform.
This issue also played during the Belgian elections last month. In Brussels a new immigrants’ interest party won a few seats, and in Flanders the social democratic party won overall but lost votes to the far left in towns with a large Muslim population.

Very bad news for integration and harmony. A few deranged comments in parliament from these Islamist MPs and the backlash will be huge.

Yeah, breaking out of prison to immediately prove why it exists.

I dont understand what they hope to achieve even IF our government took a stance. Labour will more than likely put an opinion in the matter soon. It WILL not change anything or stop what is happening there.
What IF a 2 state proposal was agreed in theory by Israel with help from the West, and Hamas rejected it? Hamas will reject any term whatsoever and want the extermination of all Jews in Israel. Frankly, our time of getting involved in any conflicts needs to be over. We have our own issues as a nation that needs sorting out like cost of living, energy cost crisis, education, wages, and 100 other things throughout the UK. Religion should play no part in politics, which is why in this nation, the State and Church are separate.
If people are so against what’s happening over in Middle East and want to do something, how about going over there and trying to do something. But the answer to 99.9% of that would be a no.

Pro Palestinian seems to involve dog whistle support for Hamas. People have called out Farage for his dog whistling, bur can’t see it when the so called pro Palestine mob do it.

Fuck anyone who makes the vote about a conflict thousands of miles away from here, these people should just move and live there if they care that much about it

Shocking sign of low integration imo. But I’m glad Labour doesn’t need these people to win and doesn’t feel the need to kowtow to them.

The only candidates that should be running are pro-British candidates.
I could care less for these extremists.

I dont think this is about Gaza as much as it is about Muslims voting for Muslims. The article even states several english vocally pro-gaza ministers lost seats to muslim independents. Gaza if anything may have simply been an opportunity for those candidates to get free publicity and to get more eyes on them. It’s like how in india regions with certain ethnic majorities will almost always vote for their ethnic-led party. I wouldn’t be wholly surprised if some of these independents join together to form a muslim-led party, though that might lose them votes from non Muslims

Utterly moronic.
I suppose now we have to look forward to conservative Muslims using this as a soap box to spew bile and nonsense now in an institution completely contrary to their values.
I’m so fed up of this Palestine nonsense. Obviously it’s bad, but how about they release the hostages, or at least stop hiding them in civilian areas and refugee camps and using the inevitable collateral deaths to point at the consequences for their actions.
