After a 1-1-1 stretch at home, the St. Louis Blues head back on the road for a three-game trip. Their first stop takes them to Ontario for their first matchup of the season with the Ottawa Senators. Welcome to another Blues’ Gameday Preview!

Blues’ Gameday Preview: Blues at Senators

The Blues and Senators will meet twice in 2026-27. The Blues won both games last season, sweeping the series with the Senators for the second time in three seasons. The Blues haven’t lost a season series with the Sens since 2013-14.

The Blues lead the all-time series, 26-18-2-2.

Last Game: Losing Streak Ends With Comeback Win

The Blues won their last game, beating the Columbus Blue Jackets, 5-3, on Saturday night. The Blue Jackets took a 2-0 lead before the Blues responded with three second-period goals. After the Jackets tied the game, Jonatan Berggren put the Blues ahead for good in the third period. The victory ended a three-game losing streak.

The first line of Robert Thomas, Jimmy Snuggerud, and Dylan Holloway stood out in a big way. After a quiet start to the season, the trio performed strongly against Columbus. Thomas recorded an assist (his first of the season), Holloway added three assists, and Snuggerud scored two goals.

    • Dylan Holloway – Robert Thomas – Jimmy Snuggerud
    • Connor McMichael – Mason McTavish – Jonatan Berggren
    • Jake Neighbours – Dalibor Dvorsky – Pavel Buchnevich
    • Ross Johnston – Pius Suter – Zachary Dean
    • Philip Broberg – Adam Jiricek
    • Justin Barron – Colton Parayko
    • Cam Fowler – Brandon Carlo
    • Joel Hofer/Jordan Binnington

It is currently unknown whether defenseman Theo Lindstein will return to the lineup. He was a healthy scratch Thursday, as head coach Jim Montgomery opted to get Justin Barron into the lineup for the first time. Barron has played the last two games, so Montgomery could cycle Lindstein back in.

    Blues’ Team Leaders

Snuggerud, McTavish, and McMichael are tied for the team lead in points with four each. Snuggerud leads the Blues with three goals. Holloway and Broberg are tied for the lead in assists, with three each. Carlo’s 17 penalty minutes give him a wide lead over the next closest (Neighbours with seven). Lastly, McTavish leads with a plus-2 rating.

In goal, Hofer and Binnington each have a win. Hofer leads in remaining goaltending categories, with a 1.68 goals-against average (GAA) and a .930 save percentage (SV%).

Storyline #1: Senators Off to Strong Start

The Senators may have moved on from Brady Tkachuk over the summer, but they are off to a strong start this season. They show no signs of regressing early.

This will not be an easy game for the Blues, but they are playing the Senators at the right time. The Sens will play their second game in as many nights after facing the New Jersey Devils on Monday. The Blues, meanwhile, will have two days of rest heading into the game.

    Storyline #2: NHL Debut?

The Blues recalled Dylan Peterson from the American Hockey League (AHL) after announcing that Dillon Dube will miss the next eight weeks with a neck injury. Peterson had a strong preseason and showcased his physical style.

Montgomery has shown a desire to rotate players into the lineup to ensure everyone stays fresh. Could Peterson make his NHL debut on Tuesday? If so, what kind of impact will he make?

    Storyline #3: The First Goal

It is always nice to score the first goal of the game. However, the Blues have an interesting first-goal trend this season. When the team scores first, they are 1-1-1. When they do not score the first goal, they are 1-0-1.

This is an incredibly small sample size, but it’s interesting. We need more games to see if this is a trend, but it’s worth keeping in the back of our minds for now. We can revisit it later if needed.

    How to Watch

The game starts at 6:30 P.M. Central Time. You can watch it on Blue Note+ and listen on 101 ESPN.

After the game, check back with The Hockey Writers for takeaways from what we hope is a Blues’ victory.
