Armenia will appoint a military attaché to Canada. A draft decision on appointing a military attaché to the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Canada is on the agenda of tomorrow’s government session.

According to the rationale accompanying the draft decision, Armenia and Canada cooperate effectively in both bilateral and multilateral formats, providing a solid foundation for fully realizing the existing potential for cooperation in the defense sector.

The two countries maintain strong interstate relations, an active political dialogue, interparliamentary cooperation, a solid legal framework, and engagement through multilateral platforms. They also cooperate in the fields of economy, education, culture, and other areas.

Armenia is interested in further expanding and deepening its relations with Canada in both bilateral and multilateral formats. The accreditation of an Armenian military attaché to Canada is expected to give further impetus to bilateral cooperation. In particular, the attaché will facilitate the development of cooperation in the defense sector, an area of mutual interest, and help make full use of the existing potential.

According to the explanatory note, high-level political dialogue and cooperation with Canada on bilateral and multilateral platforms provide a foundation for establishing defense ties and further developing multifaceted bilateral relations. In particular, they create the conditions for establishing and expanding constructive engagement in areas of mutual interest.

“The two countries possess significant potential and prospects for further developing relations in the defense sector, as well as in information technology and military-technical cooperation. Therefore, the decision to appoint a military attaché of the Republic of Armenia to Canada is driven by the substantial potential for cooperation in the defense sphere and the keen interest recently shown by the Canadian side in deepening this interaction. Moreover, Armenia attaches great importance to the consistent development and expansion of bilateral cooperation with Canada, viewing it as a vital bridge between Armenia and NATO,” the explanatory note states.

The note also emphasizes that the presence of a military attaché in Canada will facilitate the further development of defense cooperation between the two countries and give new impetus to joint defense initiatives. It is expected to elevate defense relations to a higher level of partnership.
