Brussels decided to reconsider his attitude towards the former president of Serbia, he said Tonino Picula rapporteur of the European Parliament for Serbia.

He explained that the European Commission was extremely benevolent towards what Aleksandar Vučić was doing in recent years, but he pointed out that the climate changed after Ratko Mladić’s funeral.

Serbia like this cannot join the EU.

When it comes to Serbia’s path to the European Union, Picula told N1 Hrvatska that he believes that “even Vučić does not believe that this kind of Serbia can become a member of the EU or progress on that path” and pointed out that the circle of those who have forgiven him for everything has narrowed.

Commenting on Vučić’s attacks on the Croatian media, Picula said that he is convinced that Vučić is trying to use it in the election campaign, “because he is fighting to survive”, and emphasized that it is in the interest of both Serbia and Croatia that Serbia be a more democratic and stable country.

“This is the rhetoric that Vučić has been using for a long time, as well as all his associates, and the impression of danger is reinforced by the media under his direct control. Vučić shows increased nervousness, because he is afraid of what might happen to him in Serbia, and not so much the support of his political opponents from abroad,” Picula said.

    A significantly different situation

According to him, Vučić is now facing extreme uncertainty, because in recent years he was very happy to call for special elections, which he regularly won due to the weakness of the opposition, “but now the situation is significantly different, so he is intensifying that kind of rhetoric, and the mobilization of his voters is going on as usual”.

He believes that Vučić’s rhetoric is always the same and that the attacks on him and other colleagues from European institutions show what Vučić’s attitude towards the European Union really is, “which he only aspires to”.

“These are elections to be or not to be for Vučić. He is aware that he is facing a political formation that has exceptional support from the electorate and what he is trying to do is a kind of delegitimization of political opponents and critics, connecting them with the usual ‘enemies of Serbia’ from his political mythomania, which are usually Albanians and Croats,” Picula said.
