Three business owners have been arrested and charged with violations of Connecticut’s workers’ compensation laws, officials said.
Luis Pomaquiza, 42, of Southington, was arrested and charged with defrauding a workers’ compensation insurance carrier, according to the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.
Pomaquiza is the owner of LA Roofing, LLC in Middletown, officials said. In a coordinated operation with agents from the Department of Labor’s Wage & Workplace Standards Division, inspectors said they conducted roof‑replacement site visits in Southington and determined that the company allegedly had multiple employees working who were not being reported to the company’s insurance carrier.
Jordan Tyler, 36, of Marlborough, was charged with noncompliance with insurance requirements, according to the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.
Tyler is the owner of J.A.T. Builders, LLC in East Hartford, officials said. Investigators said that an employee sustained an injury while working for the company at a time when J.A.T. Builders allegedly did not have an active workers’ compensation insurance policy. As a result, the state’s second injury fund was ordered to pay more than $25,000 in combined benefits to the injured worker and medical providers.
Solomon Sade, 47, of Westport, was charged with two counts of noncompliance with insurance requirements, according to the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.
Sade is the owner of Baxter & The Blondinit, a restaurant in Westport, officials said. In coordination with agents from the state Department of Labor’s Wage & Workplace Standards Division, investigators determined that the business was operating without a workers’ compensation insurance policy on two separate occasions.
All three individuals were processed on their arrest warrants and released on $10,000 bonds.
Pomaquiza is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on Oct. 20. Tyler is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on Oct. 23, and Sade is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior on Oct. 29.
