Montenegro must be a country where knowledge opens doors and young people see their future, said Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović during a visit to educational institutions in Rožaje.

Milatović, as announced by the President’s Office, visited the “Bać” Elementary School (OS) and the “30. septembar” High School in Rožaje, where he talked with the students about education, life ambitions and the European future of Montenegro.

He said that young people must have the opportunity to succeed thanks to knowledge, work and abilities.

“At the “Bać” Elementary School, which has been an important pillar of education and the life of the local community for more than a century, Milatović was welcomed by the President of the Municipality of Rožaje Rahman Husović and the school director Suad Murić, along with the teaching staff and students,” the statement said.

Milatović’s office said that the meeting with the youngest took place in a cordial atmosphere, with presentations of their talents and discussions about their interests, wishes and dreams.

Milatović, as they stated, emphasized the special importance of rural schools, which preserve the life of local communities and provide children with their first opportunities to discover and develop their abilities.

“It is our responsibility to ensure that a child from Bać has the same opportunity to develop their talent, receive a quality education and achieve their dreams as a child from any European city. The size of the place you come from should never determine the size of your opportunities,” said Milatović.

Murić thanked Milatović for the visit, emphasizing that his arrival represents an important message that state institutions think of every citizen and every child, regardless of which part of Montenegro they live in.

“We are following your efforts to ensure that every child has equal opportunities and that knowledge and work are the only measures of success,” said Murić.

According to him, Milatović’s visit is the best confirmation of those words in action.

“Thank you for recognizing the importance of rural schools and the importance of creating conditions so that children in smaller communities have the opportunity to learn, progress and realize their potential,” added Murić.

The President’s Office said that a “Class with the President” was held at the “30. Septembar” Gymnasium, during which Milatović talked to students about what is needed for success, what kind of Montenegro they want, and where they see their future.

“Sharing his experiences from studying at prestigious world universities, Milatović emphasized the importance of education and creating a society in which personal qualities are valued, not political connections and privileges,” the statement said.

Milatović said that Montenegro will not become a successful country as long as young people believe that they need connections, not knowledge, to succeed.

“We must build a society in which young people do not ask who they know, but what they know, what they can do and how much they are willing to do. I expect a lot from you, because this Gymnasium has always educated very good people,” said Milatović.

Speaking about the European perspective, he emphasized that membership in the European Union must mean better quality education, stronger institutions, and more opportunities for young people, so that they can achieve their ambitions in the communities from which they come.

“European Montenegro is a country where young people feel that their efforts are paying off, that institutions work in their interests and that they can build their future here, in Rožaje. That is the true meaning of our European path,” said Milatović.

The statement states that at the end of the conversation, Milatović encouraged high school students to develop critical thinking, believe in their abilities, and actively participate in building a more just and successful society.

He said that the future of Montenegro depends on their willingness to use their knowledge, ideas and courage to change the country for the better.
