The Holy Metropolis of Austria has expressed its profound gratitude and filial love for Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on the 35th anniversary of his election to the Ecumenical Throne on October 22, 1991, praising his longstanding commitment to Church unity, peace and environmental protection.
In its anniversary message, the Metropolis highlighted the Ecumenical Patriarch’s dedication and personal sacrifices throughout his patriarchal ministry.
“For thirty-five years, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has carried with faith and patience the Cross of the Great Church of Christ,” the message stated.
The Metropolis emphasized his tireless efforts to promote unity, foster peace and embrace humanity with paternal affection, while reminding the contemporary world of the sacredness of God’s creation.
Acknowledging the challenges and responsibilities of his ministry, the message noted: “As human beings, we recognize his labors, but only God knows the burdens he carries each day.”
Particular emphasis was placed on the historical and spiritual significance of the Ecumenical Patriarch’s presence in Constantinople and his role in preserving the heritage of Romiosyni.
“In his person, our people recognize the living continuity of their history, the memory of their forefathers and the hope of their future,” the Metropolis stated.
It further noted that, from the historic Phanar, Patriarch Bartholomew continues to address the wider world with a message of faith, perseverance and hope in the Resurrection.
The Metropolis also expressed its heartfelt appreciation for the Ecumenical Patriarch’s continued pastoral care for Orthodox communities in Austria and Hungary.
“Your loving presence strengthens every effort we make to bear Orthodox witness in the heart of Europe,” the message emphasized, acknowledging his trust, support and affection.
The Metropolitan, bishops, clergy, monastic communities and faithful under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Austria and Hungary jointly expressed their gratitude and requested his patriarchal blessing.
Concluding their message, they offered prayers for Patriarch Bartholomew’s health, strength and peace of heart, asking God to sustain him in his ministry.
“May Christ always fill you with the consolation that you have offered to others for so many years,” the message stated.
It concluded with the traditional acclamation: “Many years, Your All-Holiness!”
