Quran Learners Honored in Kosovo

The Women’s Department of the Islamic Department organized the event, according to the Muslimsaroundtheworld website.

Approximately 80 young students—both boys and girls—were recognized at the event and awarded certificates for completing the introductory stage of learning the Arabic alphabet.

These certificates qualify them to advance to the next stage: reciting the Quran in Arabic, learning the rules of Tajweed (proper Quranic recitation), and refining their recitation skills.

This achievement marks a significant milestone in the students’ educational journey; the skills they have acquired—moving from recognizing and mastering Arabic letters to reading Quranic verses—will serve as a foundation for more advanced levels of Islamic education.

The program was opened by Rovina Klinaku, the activities coordinator. She praised the students’ accomplishments and their dedication to learning, while also congratulating the parents for their ongoing support and involvement in their children’s religious education.

Vajde Bunjaku, head of the Women’s Department, spoke about the importance of the Quran in the life of a Muslim, emphasizing its role in guiding behavior and instilling noble ethics and human values.

The celebration featured religious hymns and artistic performances by the students, creating an atmosphere that showcased their educational progress and encouraged them to continue their journey with the Quran.

This stage is part of the Quranic education system within the mosque-based schools of Kosovo, which employs a progressive approach to instructing children and adolescents. The curriculum begins with the Arabic alphabet and mastering its reading, then advances to Quranic recitation, the study of Tajweed, and the refinement of the students’ recitation skills.

These courses extend beyond basic reading and fluency; they encompass the fundamental principles of Islam, acts of worship, ethics, social etiquette, the life of the Prophet (PBUH) and Islamic history. The program also integrates cultural and recreational activities, excursions, competitions, and award ceremonies.

The Gateway to the Quran ceremony is significant not merely as an occasion for the distribution of certificates, but as the culmination of a foundational phase. It paves the way for students to read the Book of God directly in Arabic and to continue their Quranic studies at more advanced levels.
