Fall at Schloss Lichtenstein in Baden-Württemberg, Germany (Robert A. Ortiz)
Less than an hour’s drive for those stationed in Stuttgart is Schloss Lichtenstein. The historic 19th century castle sits atop a cliffside in the Swabian Alps in Baden-Württemberg, Germany and makes for a fairy-tale-esque photo subject, as captured by photographer Robert A. Ortiz.
The castle was a medieval knight’s fortress until Duke Wilhelm of Urach purchased the land. He was inspired by the novel “Lichtenstein” by Wilhelm Hauff and built a new romantic neo-gothic style castle on the long-standing rubble of the old fortress.
