Germany’s Interior Ministry has announced the deportation of 40 Afghan asylum seekers accused of committing crimes to Kabul on a charter flight.
Der Spiegel reported on Wednesday evening, October 28, that the Afghan nationals had been detained across 10 German states.
According to the report, German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the plane departed from Leipzig Airport and landed directly in Kabul.
Germany’s Interior Ministry claimed that the deported individuals had committed crimes including manslaughter, sexual assault and drug trafficking.
“Criminals must leave our country. This is one of the reasons why deportations to Afghanistan are a regular and reliable part of our migration policy,” Dobrindt said.
Meanwhile, the first collective deportation of Afghan nationals described as “criminal migrants” since the Taliban’s return to power was organized in 2024 with Qatar’s support. In February 2026, Germany’s Federal Police transferred 20 Afghan nationals described as “criminal migrants” directly to Kabul for the first time without the assistance of third countries, under an agreement with the Taliban.
