Casey’s Garden Shop and Florist has been in Bloomington-Normal since 1949. It began as a family-owned business and has gone through multiple generations of owners since.
Kelsey Durdle originally wanted to work in landscaping, but she decided to work at the shop in 2015. At the time, it was owned by Casey Lartz, the grandson of the shop’s founder, Elden Casebeer.
She and her husband, Derek Durdle, decided to purchase Casey’s Garden Shop and Florist in 2021 after Lartz had no family members willing to take over the business.
Kelsey Durdle gave insight into the store and what it offers.
“The garden shop is highly seasonal, so we switch it up. Our floral apparel is pretty standard,” Kelsey Durdle said.
“We’re very consumer service friendly. We restock and make sure everything is looking good,” Kelsey Durdle continued.
She said that the shop has a wide range of customers.
“A lot of women, I’d say, shop with us. A lot of families. We are very family friendly,” Kelsey Durdle said.
She also said that the houseplant boom during the COVID-19 pandemic has made students more interested in buying plants from the shop.
Kelsey Durdle said that Casey’s plans to collaborate with other businesses in Normal and add more amenities to their store.
“I would say it would be fun to collab with other businesses and have more fun experiences, like a coffee shop pop up,” Kelsey Durdle said.
Casey’s Garden Shop and Florist is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
