Buyers Edge Platform has appointed Sam Peterson as Chief Technology Officer as the digital foodservice procurement company expands its use of artificial intelligence across its technology and product portfolio.
He will lead Buyers Edge Platform’s technology and engineering organization, AI-enabled product development, and efforts to bring new solutions to market more efficiently.
Peterson brings experience building engineering organizations and adopting emerging technologies across public companies, private equity-backed businesses, and international teams.
Most recently, he served as Chief Technology Officer at Renaissance, a fintech focused on philanthropic services.
At Renaissance, Peterson rebuilt engineering operations around AI-first development and created an AI Governance Council to support responsible adoption of the technology.
He previously held executive technology and product roles at Truckstop, Metrc, and Boats Group.
At Boats Group, Peterson led platform consolidation and integration work related to international acquisitions that supported the company’s eventual exit.
Earlier in his career, Peterson spent 14 years at Overstock.com.
He joined Overstock as its first software developer and ultimately became Senior Vice President and CTO of a 650-person technology, product, and program organization.
At Buyers Edge, Peterson will work across the company’s divisions and enterprise functions to develop its broader technology roadmap.
Buyers Edge said its platform provides visibility into more than $100 billion of annual purchasing activity across approximately 350,000 foodservice locations.
The company operates a portfolio that includes its Digital Procurement Network, Fresh Services, Software Solutions, and Supply Chain Management businesses.
Peterson sees the purchasing data available across that network as a foundation for developing AI-driven products for operators, distributors, and manufacturers.
