The Kosovo Dairy Association has urged the Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) to investigate suspected substitution of palm fat for milk-based cottage cheese across Kosovo. Its public statement warned that buyers could be charged for genuine cottage cheese while receiving products with undeclared vegetable fats.

The association requested urgent inspections supported by laboratory analysis to establish whether substitutes are being used. It asked the FVA to prohibit products where checks confirm violations.

In its statement, the association described the knowing sale of palm fat or vegetable-fat mixtures as genuine cottage cheese as deliberate fraud against consumers.

Its demands also included shutting businesses in cases of serious violations that justify closure. It sought the withdrawal of licences or approvals where the seriousness of the breach warrants those measures.

The association further urged the agency to make the findings of its inspections public. It requested that businesses found to have broken the law be named.
