Momentum chairperson Arnold Cassola has confirmed to Lovin Malta that he is suing Neville Gafà for defamation over allegations made during a television interview.

Cassola confirmed that he filed a court application late last week, seeking damages over statements Gafà made during an appearance on F Living.

During the interview, broadcast on 7th October, Gafà described Cassola as a “hypocrite”, alleging that the politician had partnered with another person to develop a block of apartments.

“Cassola, who is known for his anti-developer crusades, is a developer. He partnered up with someone, and they developed a block of apartments,” Gafà claimed.

He went on to allege that a hole had been left in the road during construction, resulting in a young girl falling into it.

“Thank God that she remained alive. Was Cassola charged? Of course not,” Gafà said.

The allegations refer to an incident in Swieqi in July 2024, when a 14-year-old girl fell into a manhole outside an apartment block.

According to previous reporting, Cassola owns an apartment in the building but has denied being involved in the development. He previously said he only learnt about the incident through news reports and immediately took action to have the manhole properly sealed.

Cassola maintains that Gafà’s allegations are false and have damaged his reputation.

The Momentum chairperson has now confirmed directly to Lovin Malta that he is pursuing legal action over the claims.
