Police received the first reports on Monday
Four people have been arrested in connection with suspected pickpocketing in Valletta, according to Home Affairs Minister Glenn Bedingfield.
Valletta police and officers from the Criminal Investigation Department arrested the four suspects, all Romanian nationals, in a joint operation, the minister said in a social media post.
He said police began investigating as soon as the first reports came in on Monday. By Thursday, officers had identified and arrested the four suspects.
Bedingfield did not say how many thefts were under investigation.
In June, tourist guides told Times of Malta they had noticed a rise in pickpocketing targeting both guides and their clients.
That same month, two women admitted theft charges after a passer-by alerted a police officer on foot patrol at City Gate.
