At an estimated cost of £1.8m per refugee there isn’t a scenario where simply allowing refugees to come and stay isn’t the fiscally sensible option.

At least then in a best case scenario they get a job and contribute to the tax take and worst case would be them never getting a job and claiming benefits for which I doubt the cost would ever get near £1.8m.

The immense amount of money squandered by this last Conservative government is just mind boggling. Get Sunak and all his Tories to pay back this money out of their own pockets.

This project was entirely about creating headlines… so realistically for the Tories it had began the moment the first headline was written and it would do the country some favours for Labour to just admit that’s all it was because anything else makes it seem like the Tories were serious.

I did say that when the Tories left office we needed to search them thoroughly, pockets, handbags, wallets, briefcases, bank accounts, everything. This is because otherwise they would make off with anything and everything that wasn’t nailed or bolted down.

The cheek of it is that they’re arguing over who gets to be next Tory leader. Me thinks this new government could do well be sending out the debt collectors and bailiffs to claw back some of what they’ve filched off the public purse.

      We were robbed blind.

I hope the myth of the Tories being the “financially responsible” party will die but I unfortunately doubt it.

Luckily she’ll be judged by the same measure herself in due course.

It was always a crap deal anyway, 200 max at the processing end and they could also send their own asylum seekers straight here? Nah it was never going to work

Braverman, Patel, Boris, Sunak etc should all be made to put their hand in their pockets and pay it back. The amount they have thrived and squandered from the public purse is absolutely astounding. Take them to court on account of gross incompetence in handling public money.

It was a politically motivated policy brought in so that the Conservatives could pretend they were in control of the crossings.

    11. Lol this story was written as if it was labour that has wasted the money when it was anything but.

We’ve sent 3 people…. So that averages out at £96,666,666 per person. If right wingers want to keep that…. They should pay for it themselves
