I’m sure there’ll be a lot of ‘well she *has* to say that because she’s being intimidated/is afraid of being called racist’ and ‘well actually Muslims *are* institutionally sexist, it says so in their book!’, like the Bible doesn’t also have multiple passages talking about how women need to be silent.
The fact is that Jess Phillips is right to say this. The people who abused her were individuals and should be held individually responsible. They aren’t mascots for their faith any more than certain sections of Christians are. That is to say, there are problems with bigotry in almost all of the world’s organised religions. But there’s also good in them too.

I think she’s right. There’s plenty of Muslims in the UK and around the world who wouldn’t do this and wouldn’t even think to do this. The people who did this I think were pretty fucking stupid. They just happen to be Muslim idiots and use their faith to justify idiocy
