    1. Has to be some of the worst management of a side to get so far.

You’d think Gareth was just taking twitters ideas for how to play the game.

No cohesion, no actual plan and no balls to drop Kane who may have cost England that tournament.

Also his absolute cluelessness with TAA is still beyond me and should have had him gone years ago.

    2. To be fair watching it seemed England tried the strategy they’ve fumbled with the whole tournament and finally fucked around and found out.

When they didint get their last minute goal like they tried other times the whole thing seemed to collapse very quickly.

edit- honestly its puzzleing they got to the finale, because watching Spain was so much more flexible than them.

      Can’t really complain too much.

Best team of the tournament won and clearly the better won on the night.

Kane and Foden have been so unbelievably washed this tournament. And that’s fine. It happens. That’s what the bench is for. But to disrespect Ollie, Palmer and Gordon and give them 5 mins here and there… unforgivable.

Also burned bridges with England best RB too at the last tournament and we will now be wheeling out a 74 year old Walker and Trippier at the WC too.

    5. England always failing to win but never failing to disappoint. Oh well maybe next time I guess.

    6. Kane has been a lifeless boulder up front the entire tournament. So much talent on the bench which southgate brings on far too late, again and again.

England has the best players. Just needs a manager.

It’s sad to see those guys , but a lot of them are young and will be in another final soon!

Why does English team keep Kane as captain? Dude is a corpse on the field

We were overachieving getting past Slovakia. A decent manager should have THESE players playing

    10. I loosely follow the Buffalo Bills who famously went to the Superbowl four times in a row and lost and it’s a pretty fun meme. We’re halfway there boys.

      Watched. Disappointed.

I am concentrating on the fact that England is playing better than it has for most of my lifetime. Made it to the final.

Lost, but against Spain, a world class team, 2-1

    12. FormalFalconic on

Nearly lost possession altogether. Just keep waiting, watching the ball roll. Spain 63%, England 37%. The key stats point to how fucked up things are. Somehow it depresses the hell out of me to watch it.

seriously lacked quality up front.. Kane should have been benched, Bellingham wasn’t great either

    14. Rough game but after that last effort from Spain’s defense with those headers, you can’t help but respect it.

If only we could get that far.

    15. Sitting in my Scottish flat and hearing distant cheering and celebrating happen twice gave me a pretty good idea of what the score was.

    16. Thank you, Southgate. Made us believe twice.

But clear as day, his style of play is tactically inept.

Englands strategy of have Pickford kick long every single time , turns out wasn’t a good strategy

    18. Honestly we were in contention until the last minute of the final and we should be proud.

Yes it fucking sucks right now. But I won’t hear shit from any former international when this side has done more than the so-called golden generation, or any generation, in 58 years.

      Well done, boys.

    19. Can’t wait to see all the Scots with an inferiority complex displaying the Spanish flag.

    20. I’m not a football fan but watched with my son. European teams always seem to run rings round England with their quick fire passes and energy. The better team won. We had been so lucky to get this far. Nothing wrong with coming second.

    21. Bangers_N_Cash on

Oh well, the better team won.

Should have dropped Kane a few games ago IMO, might have played better footy.

    22. As a non-Brit: still a very good performance throughout the tournament, you guys can be proud of your team

    23. Spain was the better team by a whole lot today. The midfield just destroyed and rolled over England’s midfield and defense. England had to take advantage of their few chances and had a chance to tie it up but the two headers got cleared off the line twice. Spain was better and you know it. I know it stings, but the better team won. Spain just has their shit together both in team and individual sports with Alcarez wining Wimbledon today. They just turn it on when the lights turn on. That’s why La Liga teams haven’t lost a European Cup final in 20 plus years. Hell, Real Madrid the Champions League winners, haven’t lost a European Cup final since 1983’s Cup Winners Cup against a Sir Alex Aberdeen team. Spain just knows how to play together when it counts.

Played absolutely terrible in 2nd half we were lucky it wasn’t a lot worse.

    25. Fact is, Spain were the best team in the tournament and the best team tonight… They deserved to win. And it’s a win for football when the best team actually lift the trophy.

They beat the three favourites on the way to lifting it.

England have the best generation of players they’ve had in decades, but lack a manager with the abilities to use them fully. Whereas Spain were organised, together and whenever subs were made, they slot in perfectly every time. That’s how an elite manager coaches his team.

I was really annoyed at the foul at the end. Sure it was highly unlikely England were going to win at that point, but it would have been nice if they had a chance near the end, but it was ruined by something that didn’t even look like a foul.

I might have gotten a really bad camera angle (watching on a strange Romanian TV channel in Bucharest doesn’t really have its perks) but it looked pretty unjust.

Honestly have no idea how Pickford isn’t getting a mention in these comments. His kicking was abysmal and led to so much of Spain’s dominance. One kick after the Palmer goal straight to them gave them about 6 minutes of possession. The good save he made 2nd half also came from a spell following a terrible kick. Totally destroyed any momentum we had
