And again journalist pretends that all rough sleepers are the same people.
Some of them need mental healthcare. Some of they were in a very unlucky situation. Some of them are just illegals. Some of them are just modern version of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_with_the_Twisted_Lip
And different diseases need different treatment despite they have similar symptoms.
Tories failed because they never had any interest in improving Homelessness. Tory pledges mean f— all.
Do people not realise the Conservatives have no interest in making our country better? They have a Libertarian ideology that they were following, “You need something? Pay for it yourself Peasant”.
They hate that THEIR taxes from THEIR success in life is paying for other peoples Health, Security, Child care, Disability, Sick leave etc etc This is why they always throw the “Taxes” jibe at Labour and “Where’s the money coming from” because they think it only comes from their back pocket. They despise the poor for it.
Everything they said about wanting to improve this or that, was rhetoric BS to get voted into positions where they have the power to do what they actually wanted to do.
How many years of them doing nothing to improve ALL public services do you need before people realise… their goal was to destroy Government spending and budgets. They only wanted to reduce budgets, bring “Small Government” interference simply so they could achieve one goal of lowering their Taxes.
The only thing they are pissed about is that they didn’t get round to the Taxes cuts they wanted. After they fucked up with Boris, they played a “Hail Mary” with Liz Truss and tried to do it before they were pushed out the door, but they failed.

Ahh. Here come the refugee bashing again. Tories chose to mess up asylum processing meaning refugees were stuck in hotels, they are chose not to tackle addressing homelessness.
They could have easily worked on both, but chose to make a mess one one and not address the other.
Considering many of the Bullingdon boys who would burn £50 notes in the faces of the homeless for sport made up a large part of the cabinet, it’s not exactly surprising that they did nothing to assist the current homeless people.
There’s no money to be made from it and pointless throwing money at it.
Is there any government in the entire history of this country that’s solved rough sleeping? I’m all for bashing the Tory government over their failures but this feels like saying they’re shit because they didn’t solve world hunger…
During the covid 19 pandemic £530,000,000.00 was spent on setting up nightingale hospitals in large empty buildings in major cities throughout the UK. They were filled with thousands of beds and were never used because they didn’t have the staff to run them. Not only does it show that if the government wants to it can come up with solutions very quickly, but also I believe that the majority of those nightingale hospitals are still sitting there unused and could be repurposed to provide safe beds for the homeless
How can millionaires or even billionaires relate to people rough sleeping ??
It’s very noticable in the changes in my area.
Anecdotally growing up in the 80s’ & 90’s rough sleeping was rife, not just in the cities but outside them too, many abandoned buildings had signs of occupation (sleeping gear, the ubiquitous for the time empty meths containers, sometimes needles). I remember “cardboard city” mentioned frequently on the news.
Things did get better in the late 90s’/00s’ with a lot less noticable rough sleepers but after 2010 the numbers seemed to shoot up again. I think it hit me most when I spent an evening in a pub under a railway arch on a rainy night while the numbers of homeless seeking shelter grew & grew until there were dozens outside.
Its a complicated problem with many reasons for & types of homelessness but I do believe it is solvable,

Deciding what to do about drug and alcohol addiction would also help. It’s a huge problem that keeps people down.Â
The Tories wanted to line their own pockets with money,as well as the pockets of their friends.
They couldn’t do that and afford to help the homeless. They had a very difficult choice to make and they chose to help themselves.
Well presumably they just did what they usually do and outsourced as many parts of the process to their chums companies as they could.
Ending rough sleeping isn’t that easy though so without wanting to defend them in anyway even if they had the desire and willpower to end it it’s more complex than just providing housing and a not insignificant proportion of rough sleepers will never submit to the requirements of being housed.
Being homeless should not be illegal. Rough sleepers need support, not vilification. More so in a cost of living and housing crisis. It takes scarily little to end up on the streets.
The Tories never fix a problem that can be profited from.
That is their mantra.
By giving free housing and food to any cunt who comes illegally here in a boat?
The local authority shares the responsibility to solve the problem. The Mayor of Manchester promised to end homelessness 7 years ago and it’s increased on his watch.
As usual lots of people failing to understand that homelessness isn’t just about a lack of homes.
If you or I were down on our luck we’d take the help and turn things around. We’d never become long term homeless.
During my time working with shelter I learned very quickly that it’s almost always related to mental health and or addiction issues.
You can’t just put someone into a flat and expect them to start participating in society. Suddenly they have to adhere to certain social standards which they don’t want to or can’t do.
Ultimately we solve this by changing up society and preventing people getting to that point. It’s about tackling drugs (which Reddit typically wants to see more of in society – baffling), education, creating stable homes and all the rest.
Unfortunately there is not one single way to “end homelessness” because often resources aren’t the problem. It’s about the individual not wanting to participate in society.
We need cross party intergenerational change. I don’t think the Tories helped but labour won’t “solve” this either.
It’s more complex than that.
