      >The Norwich South MP did not refer to “his heirs and successors” after a mention of the king when he said during a swearing in last week

      Oh no, how dare he!

Seriously though, how long will this country maintain the Royal Zoo?

    2. I used to be in the army. I won’t join now for a number of reasons, but the biggest is I cannot morally take the oath. The concept of monarchy to me is fundamentally immoral

    3. It’s an absolute disgrace, that in this day and age our leaders are still forced to swear allegiance to an unelected monarch.

    4. If he’s against having a royal family how can we trust an oath he makes to the Royal family can be trusted

Didn’t Dennis Skinner MP say the oath but have his fingers crossed behind his back, as if to say, “I’ll recite your oath but I don’t believe a word of it.”

    6. Good for him. I tend to think a lot of this sort of thing is performative and it’s not the hill I would die on…

Mind you, I’m talking and thinking about republicanism so maybe this particular performance is having its intended effect

    7. Why isn’t this a respected view? I hated having to swear allegiance to the Queen when I got my citizenship, but I wouldn’t have gotten it otherwise

    8. Funny how people cite democracy to criticise the monarchy but ignore democracy when the majority of the British people are in favour of the monarchy.
