“Etianne Martini Sasso, one of the researchers at Griffith University in Australia who conducted the study published in the journal Plos One, said they found that veterans who had suffered from the illness had an “impaired ion channel function in their cells”. This meant that the molecules involved in transporting calcium were defective in veterans with the syndrome.”
They don’t know the actual cause, just a possible symptom. Headline incorrect.

>…found that veterans who had suffered from the illness had an “impaired ion channel function in their cells”. This meant that the molecules involved in transporting calcium were defective in veterans with the syndrome. Calcium helps regulate essential functions such as muscle contraction, nerve function and hormone secretion. Sasso said they found that the impaired function “may cause inadequate cell function”.
>Professor Sonya Marshall-Gradisnik , one of the report’s authors, added: “The findings from our research provides clear scientific evidence that the health problems experienced by Gulf War veterans can be directly linked to their exposure to specific hazardous agents during their service.”
while it seems “obvious”, id have expected to hear how they came to that conclusion.

They found the mechanism that causes the symptoms, but what caused the lack of calcium in their cells?

I thought they’d already decided it was exposure to low levels of sarin?

Depleted uranium, toxic air from burning oil wells and naps that all SP were ordered to take on a regular basis.

Very interesting, Gulf war syndrome has a lot of overlapping symptoms with post-viral diseases such as ME and Long Covid so hopefully this could lead to some breakthroughs there.

I can’t help but remember Boris Johnson scrawling “Bollocks. This is Gulf War syndrome stuff” on the first Long Covid report.

So did they find a way to fix “inadequate cell function”?
