      You can go and look at all of the headlines that have come out in the past 12 hours, a huge number of them are talking about her potentially becoming the first ‘black female president’ including a number of very left wing outposts. Equally, black people in the US refer to themselves as African Americans including those with Caribbean heritage as they were ultimately slave traded over from Africa.

      The comment in this article is such a non-issue and had anyone besides Farage had have said it, there wouldn’t be a peep.

      Farage might be a lot of things, but he knows what he’s saying here. I’ve seen Kamala referred to as an “African American” a lot, but to call her just African is playing into the same bullshit line Trump took with Obama, claiming he wasn’t from the USA purely based on his background.

      I’m sure he knows very well the reaction he’s gotten, and I’m sure he did it in a way that would be something he could pass off to people primed to believe his bullshit that he meant nothing by it. Hope this makes it clear the Reform candidates who had trash opinions were the rule, not the exception.

      Seems like he just got confused in the moment between British and American terminology and meant to say “African-American woman”. Whereas we’d just say “black British woman” or even just “black woman”. Non-story and these reactions perfectly encapsulate how these word games are divisive and harmful to society as it stigmatises people who just aren’t up to date with “progressive” terminology and those who may misspeak.

      Kamala Harris is a US born biracial citizen with one black parent and one Indian parent. Farage is obviously being racist as fuck here whatever, but that he doesn’t have any clue at all about her background for someone who likes to to interject himself into US politics so much, or is deliberately ignoring it to enable a racist soundbite, says it all.

      Are people going to stop getting their knickers in a twist when Farage and those who line up behind him are called racist yet? Cos anyone not racist would be appalled by this not, saying they just really like how he speaks!

      I know we have to keep mollycoddling the Reform UK voters and pointing out that not all of them are racist. But all of them found Farage’s racism acceptable enough to vote for his party.

      She has as much ancestral claim to being from Africa as he does. Setting aside the snivelling implication that she’s coasting and immune from party scrutiny or vetting due to her race it shows a real ignorance of the topic he’s trying to pundit.

      Even had he tried to dress up his remark with “African-American” it demonstrates his insight as clueless and shallow — Kamala Harris being from Jamaica and India, neither of which are in Africa.

      Better to stay silent and have people think you’re a moron than open your mouth and remove all doubt, Nige.

      She’s probably more Indian than she is African if we’re talking genetic heritage. Her father is relatively light skinned I note. It’s odd how in America any amount of black heritage makes you seen as entirely black.

      Tiger Woods makes for an interesting example, early career he faced backlash for not identifying solely as black, when he emphasised the breadth of his heritage, coining Cablinasian as his descriptor. (Caucasian, Black, Indian, Asian).

      As to the correct and incorrect way of saying things, it seems pretty desperate to make capital out of this. However African American is more the common way of saying it.
