**From The Telegraph’s Fiona Tomas in Paris:**

The British duo held a slim advantage over Australia after executing their final and most difficult dive of the competition but sealed Britain’s first Olympic medal in women’s diving for 64 years.

There were audible gasps inside the Aquatics Arena when Australia – who were expected to make up the deficit of 58.68 – crumbled under pressure on their final dive, handing Britain their first medal of the Games.

It meant Harper and Mew Jensen created their own history, not only securing Team GB’s first medal in women’s diving for more than six decades, but also sealing Britain’s first opening day medal since 2004.

China’s Yani Chang and Yiwen Chen took gold, with the USA taking silver.
