Can we assume this is to do with Taiwan? I imagine the US has their backyard quite secure so this is more a show of unity with our friends around the pacific rim.

    2. If anybody thinks that’s a long way to tow it home, don’t worry. It’ll probably break down before it’s halfway there.

    3. My personal opinion is that the distance is too far and it should offer little interest for us.

We are no longer a global empire, and we should retrench our sphere of influence back to the Arabian sea/Indian ocean. Trying to project power that far away isn’t serious.

The HMS Prince of Wales has had such an embarrassing start, that if it can complete a successful tour in the Pacific, it’ll give a lot of confidence to the service, and to the public, that it’s a real strategic asset.

If the UK Gov really wanted to uphold some kind of humanitarian mission, perhaps they should focus their attention on the innocent Palestinian civilians that are being bombed & murdered by a genocidal regime. My geography is not so great, but I am guessing that the distance to the Mediterranean Sea is a lot less than going all the way to the Pacific.

Reminder – the Opium Wars were basically about the Western nations dumping ILLEGAL hard drugs onto a civilian population, and then attacking the far away nation. So – “No”, as a Brit, it is nothing to be proud of – unless, of course, you condone deliberate / forced drug dependency and military invasion & subjugation of far away foreign lands. So, which is it?

    6. Planned for years I assume. Part of 5 powers exercise, or a global similar to Daring a good few years back?

      Futile, delusional and stupid.

I genuinely thought this government would take a more sensible approach RE China.

*We stocked our ships full of British beer and bullets*
*We mobilised the navy and we called up thе marines*
*We sailed two weeks ’til wе reached China*
*So we could teach a lesson to those bloody Chinese*

    9. Translation – America has ordered us to duty, with the planes we rely on them for servicing.

Which is fine, so long as they’re backing Ukraine and helping in Europe.

Lets see how it goes when that orange wanker comes back.

Be better to use them to house the asylum seekers and illegal immigrants.

    11. Weapon system for remote force projection is used for remote force projection, more at 10.

In other words, a carrier is less than fucking useless deployed somewhere that’s within easy range of RAF land bases – it costs far, far more to run than a strip of concrete somewhere with a Tesco next door.

What ships are in the “strike group” I thought we didn’t have enough ships ourselves. So, this must be a joint effort?

I often see you post military related articles here. Just out of interest do you have a keen interest or are you employed in the forces?

It would have been nice if our military contracts were delivered rather than being a complete sh*t show, with weakness allowing it to carry on.
