Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday addressed the country’s diplomats at the closing event of the annual Ambassadors’ Conference, telling them “together we will implement policies focused on peace, security and prosperity”.

Together, we will be able to maintain Georgia’s worthy status in the international arena and implement a policy that will be focused on the peace, security, and prosperity of our country”, Papuashvili said, emphasising the importance of ambassadors’ “continued efforts”.

Reflecting on the political landscape of this year, the Speaker noted the significance of Georgia’s transition to a fully proportional electoral system and the introduction of electronic technologies in the October general elections.

He also highlighted the recent conclusion by the Organisation for Security and Co-Operation in Europe Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights  on the elections, which he claimed had “cleared up any doubts about its integrity”.

Papuashvili also highlighted the election of Georgia’s sixth President this month, marking a “historic moment” in the country’s shift to a fully parliamentary system.

Yesterday, the inauguration of the President was held in the Palace of the Parliament, which fully implemented the political and legal system of Georgia as a parliamentary republic”, he said.

In discussing Georgia’s foreign policy, Papuashvili reaffirmed the country’s commitment to integration with European and Euro-Atlantic structures and to “maintaining stability in a geopolitically challenging region”.

He further acknowledged efforts of Georgia’s diplomats in addressing “numerous security threats”, adding that the country had “navigated through the challenges while achieving significant economic growth”.

In recent years, in a region marked by complex geopolitical dynamics and international security challenges, our Government, with your active participation, has successfully repelled numerous significant threats and neutralised mines – whether planted with intent or triggered by the international situation”, Papuashvili said.

Looking ahead, the Speaker highlighted the need for Georgia to “continue promoting its history, culture, and democratic achievements abroad while fulfilling its European integration goals”.

The official further pledged the country’s legislative body would “make great efforts to achieve the goals of EU membership”.
