WINONA, Minn. (KTTC) – It can be tough for anyone to experience loneliness, as well as knowing someone you love is experiencing it. However, services such as the one Winona Health Volunteers is providing, can perhaps make lonely people feel a little less lonely.
Winona Health Volunteers is providing a free Telecare service for anyone who may be experiencing loneliness.
Every day, including weekends and holidays, Telecare volunteers will call Telecare clients between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. This is a way to allow everyone to hear at least one friendly voice every day.
If the client does not answer the phone, the Telecare volunteer will contact the friend or relative the client chose as their contact person.
“Sometimes people who live alone may feel lonely or isolated,” Volunteer Manager Kris Walters said. “Our Telecare volunteers offer a friendly check in by phone—every day—and they welcome people to sign up for this free service.”
This service is also flexible. For example, if the client is always with family on Sundays, they can choose to not be contacted on Sunday. Or, if they will not be home for any reason, they can let the volunteer know, and they will be taken off the call list on those days.
“We are so grateful to our team of volunteers who ensure that every Telecare client gets a daily call to say hello and ask how they’re doing,” Walters said. “This call provides a little peace of mind to individuals who live alone and to their families.”
This service is always free and available to anyone who is disabled or lives alone.
