Car sales in Greece fell 4.9% in December 2024 from the same month a year earlier, data from the country’s statistics service (ELSTAT) show.
A total of 14,815 cars, including new and imported used vehicles, were registered for the first time in December 2024, down from 15,581 in December 2023. The decline contrasts with a 30.1% year-on-year increase in registrations recorded in December 2023.
However, new car registrations rose by 4.4%. A total of 9,314 new cars were registered in December 2024, compared with 8,919 in the same month of 2023.
For the full year 2024, 243,796 cars were registered, up 2.4% from 238,117 in 2023. In 2023, car registrations had surged by 16.1% compared to 2022. New car registrations totaled 148,276 in 2024, a 1.8% increase from 145,667 in 2023.
In contrast, motorcycle sales saw significant growth. Registrations of motorcycles over 50cc rose 28.9% in December 2024 to 3,277 units, up from 2,543 in the same month of 2023. Of these, 3,166 were new motorcycles, marking a 31.2% increase from December 2023.
For the full year, 81,897 motorcycles were registered, an 18% increase from 69,425 in 2023. New motorcycle registrations reached 77,979, up 18.5% from 65,814 in 2023.
