Greece reiterates its steadfast support for Yemen and its people, amidst a decade-long conflict, the Greek Permanent Representative to the UN Evangelos Sekeris said.

Sekeris underlined the effects of the internal conflict in Yemen, stressing that “the political, economic and social implications are profound and extend to an important regional humanitarian crisis” and highlighted the destabilizing actions of the Houthis, whose continued attacks on ships in the Red Sea region “have seriously affected freedom of navigation and maritime security,” further intensifying regional instability.

Greece reiterated its political support for the Yemeni government and the Presidential Leadership Council, underlining the importance of unity and sovereignty.

“Greece provides full political support to the Yemeni government, stressing the importance of unity within the framework of the Presidential Leadership Council, to promote security and stability for all citizens, with respect for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen,” he said.

Greece pledged to provide 100,000 euros to the Technical Assistance Flexible Fund for Yemen (TAFFY), strengthening the international effort for the country’s recovery.
