A family has spoken out about their “nightmare” holiday while their child is stuck on life support in Spain.
Stephen Meek was enjoying a trip to Alicante when his 13-year-old daughter suddenly suffered severe bleeding on her lungs.
We previously reported how Charlotte Lily Meek is in ICU after becoming seriously ill abroad where she remains seriously ill but now stable.
Now Stephen, from Larkhall, has spoken to the Glasgow Times about how costs are rising for them to stay in Spain and how shocked they are by the tragic situation.

He said: “It is truly a nightmare for someone so healthy to suddenly have an unexplained lung haemorrhage and be critically ill.
“We were on a family holiday, Charlotte loves Alicante, we have visited several times.
“She was out enjoying The Festival of the Three Kings the night before this happened.
“The doctors have no idea why, they have ruled out all usual causes.
“We are in talks with the insurance company to bring her home but she needs to be declared fit to fly.
“Our insurance will cover Charlotte’s medical costs and repatriation but not any expenses we are incurring such as accommodation, food, washing, toiletries, and daily roaming charges.
“Our nephew has set up a GoFundme page to help alleviate this worry for us.”
Well wishers have already raised more than £4k for the family, you can donate to help support them by clicking here.
Stephen has asked if people can keep his daughter in their thoughts as she fights for her life in hospital.
He said their family has been overwhelmed with support for Charlotte who is “the most chatty, kind and friendly girl you could ever meet”.

“She has never had any medical emergencies, only planned admissions for surgery for a stoma, and she has never had any issues with her lungs.
“She is a full time wheelchair user and has autism and special needs but is the most chatty, kind and friendly girl you could ever meet.”
